Canvas: Personal Pronouns

Task: This article contains information on adding personal pronouns to your user account settings in Canvas.

Instructions:

You can select personal pronouns to add to your user account. Personal pronouns display after your name in various areas in Canvas, including:

  • Comment Fields
  • Discussions
  • Inbox
  • People Page (Course and Groups)
  • User Navigation Menu
  • User Profile Page
  • User Settings Page

Note: Some tools in Canvas, such as New Quizzes and Analytics, do not currently support displaying pronouns.


Selecting Personal Pronouns

Login to Canvas and follow these instructions to add personal pronouns to your user account. Note: you may need to select the proper pronouns more than once before it shows in your user profile.

The pronouns for selection are:

Drop down list of pronoun selections.

After the personal pronouns selection has been made, you will see the update next to your name in any one of the Canvas listed locations above. Here is what it will look like in a Discussion Board and from the People page in a course.

FAQ

What should I do if the pronoun or gender identity options I need are not available in the list?
We have included some options for selection but this is certainly not an exhaustive list. We actively monitor for any updates needed to best support our community, and we encourage you to contact us at: https://td.usnh.edu/TDClient/Requests/ServiceDet.aspx?ID=441 to inform us of options to be added to the lists.
