Staff and Faculty: How to update Apple devices (MacOS) after changing or resetting your password - all campuses

Summary

This article shows how to update Apple Mac computers after changing or resetting your password. This applies to all campuses.

It is important to update all your computers and devices after you have changed your USNH password. Although some applications that will prompt you for your new password there are occasions when you are not prompted and, without even knowing it, your device is making multiple failed attempts to connect to the USNH Network using your old password. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, your account will be locked as a security measure, designed to protect your account from unauthorized attempts.

If your AD account is locked, call or visit your campus Technology Help Desk in person.

How-to

Task: To update your University-issued Apple Macintosh computer after changing or resetting your password

Once you have successfully changed your password via https://myaccount.microsoft.com, follow these steps to update your Apple Macintosh computer.

Instructions

Step 1 - Update your Mail program

  • Open your Mail program
  • Go to Preferences
  • Go to Accounts  and check for any saved password. Delete the saved password or update it.

Step 2 - Remove your USNH Password from your Mac OSX keychain

  • It is VERY important the you QUIT all running programs on your Mac computer (HINT: Command-Tab will cycle through all running programs.)
  • Go to Finder Applications, then Utilities > Open Keychain Access
    • The Keychain Access window has a column along the left side which is split into a top (Keychains) and bottom (Categories) section, plus a listing of individual Keychain items on the right-hand side.
    • In the list of Keychains (top section on the left), make sure that the LOGIN keychain is selected.  Click once to select it, if needed
    • In the list of Categories (lower section on the left), click on PASSWORDS.  You should see a listing of all your saved passwords on the right-hand of the window.
    • In the very top, right of the window go to search box and type out your campus’ domain, or any campus you have worked on in the past:
      • Keene.edu
      • Plymouth.edu
      • UNH.edu
      • USNH.edu
      • Granite.edu (retired, July 2023)
  • You will likely want to DELETE all of your saved USNH passwords (by pressing the DELETE key) so your Mac will prompt you to enter your NEW password when and if you access that resource in the future.
  • You may be prompted for your Mac’s password.
  • Quit the Keychain Access program.

Your Mac OS X Keychain should now have "forgotten" your OLD USNH password and will prompt you to enter your NEW USNH password as needed

Step 3 -  Clear Saved Passwords in your browsers

a. Safari -- Click on Safari in the menu bar and go to Preferences > Passwords. Remove any passwords that are associated with your USNH Account.

b. Chrome -- Go to drop down menu on the right side of the address bar and go to Settings. Then on the left go to Settings again. On the right side at the bottom, go to Advanced Settings, then go to Privacy. Click on Mange saved passwords.  Remove any passwords that are associated with your USNH Account.

c. Firefox -- Go to Firefox in the menu bar at the top and go to Preferences Security. Click on Saved Passwords and remove any passwords that are associated with your USNH Account.

Step 4 - Update the network settings to connect to the Eduroam Wireless Network

  • At UNH - If you are having issues connecting to the wireless network after changing your password. Connect to UNH-Open, open a browser and go to UNH eduroam Wireless Setup and run the wireless set up applet. This will ensure that your wifi settings are configured with the most up to date certificates

Step 5 - If your USNH Password is saved on any mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets, update these devices with your new USNH password.
