Kaltura: Uploading IOS Video Files

Task: This article describes how to upload IOS video files using Kaltura.

Instructions:

Kaltura's Capture is the easiest way within Canvas to capture video, audio, and or content on a computer and post the recording for others to view. Sometimes a mobile device must be used to make the video recording and this article is about just one of a couple ways to upload that file to Canvas and My Media. (Please see Related Articles at the bottom of this page) After an instructor has enabled My Media in a course...students and faculty can post new IOS media content by following the steps below:

Notes:

  1. New recording files may not appear in the course ‘Media Gallery’ until instructor approval
  2. 'My Media' is private to each user...Faculty can only view 'published' content

IOS Video Upload Steps

  1. Download and configure the Canvas app from iTunes
  2. Login to Canvas using the app
  3. In the correct course- click My Media and then add new media upload
  4. Choose the correct video from your photo library or make a new recording via the 'Take Video' button
  5. Name the file, fill in details, and hit save
  6. Back in My Media- check the file and under Actions hit Publish (be sure to enter the right course and hit save)

Mobile Recording Best Practices

  1. Be sure to record video in landscape mode
  2. To prevent the loss of any media files, record your video using your device’s default camera or media app, and save to your device.
  3. Before uploading-- make sure you have a strong internet and/or cellular network connection established. Data rates may apply.
  4. During upload, avoid multitasking on your device (i.e. opening other apps on your phone after beginning an upload.)
  5. For troubleshooting or any questions about the Canvas IOS app-- please call Canvas Support 24/7 @ (833) 665-7258
