Moodle - Q&A Forum

The Q&A forum is a unique forum because it prevents students from reading responses written by their classmates. The only way students can observe their classmates' postings is if they post their own response to an instructor question. The forum is initially started by the instructor, who creates a new conversation topic (or question). When students enter into the conversation to answer the question, they cannot see anybody else's replies until they post their own response.


  1. Login to myPlymouth
  2. Select the myCourses tab and the myCourses window appears.
  3. In the center column, select your class title from the appropriate semester category in the myCourses channel. You will now be looking at your course's home page.
  4. Click on the Turn editing on button in the upper right corner of the course.
  5. Navigate to the topic number or week that you would like to add this forum to, and open the Add an activity drop-down menu.
  6. Select Forum from the list of choices.
  7. Input a name for your forum in the Forum name text box.
  8. In the Forum type drop down menu, select the Q and A forum option.
  9. In the Forum introduction text box place any student instructions for this activity.
  10. If you'd like this forum to be graded, change the Aggregate type option to Maximum rating.

  11. When you are finished, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the Save and display button.
    • If you accidentally selected Save and return to course click on the newly created Q&A forum to enter into the discussion area.
  12. Click on the Add a new question button.
  13. Type out a question name (Subject) and question text (Message).
  14. When you are finished, scroll to the bottom and select the Post to forum button.
