Moodle - Copying an older course to a newer course - Moodle's Import Feature

Summary

This article describes how to copy course content from course to another in Moodle.

Note: Please avoid using the Backup and Restore functions in Moodle to copy course content from previous semesters. This approach can remove current student enrollments from your course. If you need to restore a course to a blank shell, please contact helpdesk@plymouth.edu for assistance.

Content

  1. Navigate and open the original course in Moodle. At the top with the course name write down the CRN code that is in parenthesis, i.e. IS-1115-36 Tackling a Wicked Problem (12345.678910)
  2. Open your new blank course in Moodle.
  3. Locate the Administration block and click Import.
  4. In the search box, input the CRN code you wrote down earlier, i.e. 12345.678910 and click search.
  5. Click the radio button to select the course, then click Continue.
  6. Click Next or click Jump to the final step if you would like to include the entire course.
  7. If clicking next, the Include page allows you to select or unselect any items you don’t want to import. Select items you wish to include or not include then click Next.
  8. Review the items you want to include, then click Perform Import.
  9. You will then see the import confirmation page. Click Continue.
