## Content

Moodle has introduced a new method of inserting mathematical symbols into any text box in your course. This new feature is called the **DragMath Equation Editor** and is accessible by clicking on the unique icon in the formatting toolbar (see image below).

## Steps

- Log into myPlymouth
- Select the
**myCourses**tab and the myCourses window appears. - In the center column, select your class title from the appropriate semester category in the myCourses channel. You will now be looking at your course's home page.
- Click on the
**Turn editing on**button located in the upper right corner of the window. - Navigate to an area where you'd like to enter in a mathematical symbol (it could be a topic header, forum post, a new label, or any text box with a formatting toolbar).
- In the formatting toolbar, locate and
**click on the DragMath icon**(see image at the top of the page). - The
*DragMath Equation Editor*window will now appear.- If the pop up window appears to be blank, you may need to update Java on your computer. Please refer to Java's website for more information: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

- To insert mathematical symbols into your workspace, simply click on any symbol in the list.
- If you have selected a symbol which contains empty boxes, click inside of them to type in any desired numbers or letters.
- If you would like to clear your workspace area, click on the
**Edit**toolbar and select**Clear Workspace**. - When you are satisfied with your work, select the
**Insert**button at the bottom of the window. - Moodle will then display a line of text surrounded by dollar symbols (
**$$**). This is normal, as it is how Moodle reads your particular equation. When your text is in viewing mode (after you save), the code displayed here will automatically be converted to the symbols you had inserted.
