Minimum Computer Standards for the PSU Network

The following guidelines were developed for typical student/office use. In most cases, this includes word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web browsing and PSU web-based systems. That said, computing technology changes a lot and ITS makes every effort to keep these recommendations up to date.

Hardware Standards

Any computer purchased with PSU funds, including grant funding, must meet or exceed the following hardware specifications in order to remain connected to the PSU network. With the cost of new equipment constantly declining, upgrades are generally not cost-effective after a machine becomes four or five years old, however ITS may be able to assist with other options, which may extend the life of an existing computer is some situations.
