Canvas: Direct Share or Direct Copy course content

Task: This article describes how to use the direct share with other faculty or to direct copy content to another course.   These options allow you to share specific course content without having to use the Course Copy option.

Instructions:

The Send to feature allows you to quickly direct share Canvas content with another faculty.   

  1. In Assignments, Quizzes, Discussions, Pages, or Modules, click the ⋮ icon for an entry and select Send to... from the drop-down menu.
  2. Begin typing the name of the other teacher and select the name of the correct user when it appears. ...
  3. Click the Send button.
  4. Any user who receives shared content will be notified in the User Navigation Menu. Shared content is indicated in the user's Account icon and also in the Shared Content link
  5. Clicking that link will display shared items. Click the  ⋮ icon for an entry to PreviewImport, or Remove a shared item.

NOTE: If the content being shared includes other course content (such as a quiz that includes a file), only the direct content item selected for sharing will be included. The additional files must be shared individually.

The Copy To feature allows you to copy Canvas content to directly to another course you are associated with. 

  1. In Assignments, Quizzes, Discussions, Pages or Modules, click the ⋮ icon for an entry and select Copy to... from the drop-down menu.
  2. Enter the course code or course name in the Select a Course, then select the course you want to copy into.
  3. Select Copy.  A success message appears indicating the copy is complete.
  4. Select Close to close the window.
  5. Go to the other course to locate the copied content.

Outcome:

Users should be able to use the direct share aspect of Canvas with other faculty or to direct copy content to another course.
