Kaltura: Requesting Captions

Summary

This article describes how to request mechanical captioning for Kaltura videos.

Content

Kaltura users are able to request mechanical captioning for their uploaded media. There are multiple reasons one would request captions, including:
  • The media has been edited and the original captions no longer match the media content.
  • Media is in a language other than English and needs corresponding captions.

To request captions:

  1. Go to your university's media page.
  2. Log in with your login information.
  3. Click on your name in the top right corner, then click the My Media button.

  4. Select the media entry that you wish to request captions for.

  5. Underneath the video, select the Actions button, then click Caption and Enrich..

  6. Select the Service as Machine, the Source Media Language (the language primarily used in the media), then click Submit.

  7. You will be redirected to a list of your caption requests. These take some time to process and will not be finished immediately after requesting. Check back to this page periodically to see the status of your requests. You will know your captions are ready when their status changes from PENDING to COMPLETE.

  8. At this point your media will have mechanical captions, which are around 80% accurate. If your captions need to be 100% accurate, you can proceed to edit them.
