Box - Leaving UNH or Changing Departments

Faculty/Staff do not keep their UNH Box Account*

Any personal data saved to Box becomes inaccessible after leaving UNH. See bottom of page for information on transferring personal Box Data to another non-UNH Box account. DO NOT transfer University-owned data.

* This does not apply to Faculty Emeritus

 

  • At this time when you leave UNH your Box Account Shared content remains usable by collaborators, but may become inaccessible in the future. You will no longer have access to your UNH Box Account.

  • If you have saved personal data to Box see bottom of page with instructions on how to create a personal Box account.

  • Any requests for ownership changes after a user leaves the University must go through the accounts management system, approval has to be granted by an AVP or VP of the department the former employee worked for.

Before changing Departments or Leaving UNH - To avoid loss of Shared Content:

If your department has a group Box account, we suggest working with your supervisor and/or departmental IT staff to move your data to a sub-folder within the Box group account. Otherwise, follow the instructions below to change ownership of your content.

  • Add a Co-owner to Folders:

    • Open Box Web App in browser - unh.box.com

    • Highlight folder you wish to add a Co-Owner

    • Select Share and enter Collaborators name or email address


 

  • Change to Co-Owner:

    • Click "invite as Editor" and change the permissions OR

    • highlight folder again and select the person you wish to make Owner

    • Click the 3 dots next to their name

    • Choose Owner from drop down (Note: This will make you an Editor)

Change Ownership

  • Remove yourself as collaborator:

    • Select folder you wish to no longer collaborate with

    • Go to the 3 dots on your name and select remove at the bottom

Personal Data in Box:

  • If the data in Box is personal and yours, you can create a personal Box Account at https://www.box.com/.

    • Do this from a Private Browser or browser you have not logged into your UNH Box account with.

  • Once the account is created add that new address to your personal UNH Box account folder as a Co-Owner, then change the personal account to Owner.

    • Follow above instructions - enter FULL new Box account email address this will not auto-populate
