SharePoint: Fixing a 404 Error "Temporarily Down"

The instructions provided detail the steps to take if a 404 error "site not available" is displaying after deleting a SharePoint home page.


Task: To fix a 404 Error "Temporarily Down"



Step 1 - Copy either of the text strings below:

  • /_layouts/15/AdminRecycleBin.aspx?view=5
  • /_layouts/15/viewlsts.aspx?view=14

Step 2 - Paste them to the end of the URL for your SharePoint site.


Outcome: You are taken to the recycle bin or contents folder of the SharePoint site.


Suggested Next Steps: If you are unhappy with your home page, additional pages can be created. Once configured as desired these pages can be set as the new home page.
