Keene State College Microsoft Migration FAQs

We are pleased to announce that KSC is moving to a single Microsoft 365 environment that will be shared by all USNH institutions! All students, faculty, and staff at USNH institutions will be able to share files and calendars and collaborate in Teams using the username and password assigned by their home institution. Beyond improving the user experience, moving to a common Microsoft 365 environment will also improve cybersecurity and positions USNH institutions well for the future.

Starting Friday, June 4, at 5 p.m., through Saturday, June 5, at 2 p.m., service updates will impact your access to all online Microsoft 365 services including Calendar, Email, Excel, Forms, OneDrive, OneNote, Planner, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Word and Yammer. During this time, Microsoft 365 services will not be available. 

From Saturday, June 5, at 2 p.m., through Sunday, June 6 at 5 p.m., the Microsoft 365 environment will be available; however, all your files may not be available during this period. Part of the service update will entail moving everyone's files, including email messages. All your files will be available after the service update window.

On the side of caution, we suggest not use any Microsoft services until after 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 6.

Note: KSC students, your “send” email address will become firstname.lastname@keene.edu. If email messages are addressed to your firstname.lastname@ksc.keene.edu, you will still receive those messages. 

1. Where can I get help if I have questions or need technical assistance?

  • Call the KSC Help Desk at 603-358-2532
  • Submit a ticket at www.keene.edu/support 
  • Stop by our office on the 2nd floor of Elliot Hall 

2. Do I need to do anything to prepare for the migration?

  • Yes, log out of any Microsoft 365 browser sessions before 5 p.m. on June 6. Here’s how:
  • Download any files from OneDrive that you need to work on over the weekend of June 4-6.
  • If you utilize Microsoft Forms, please follow these steps.  

3. When will these service updates occur? 

  • Friday, June 4, at 5:00 p.m., through Sunday, June 6, at 5:00 p.m. 

4. Who will be impacted by the updates?

  • KSC students, faculty, and staff. 

5. Which services will be impacted?

  • All Microsoft 365 services, including Email, Microsoft Bookings, Calendar, Excel, Forms, OneDrive, OneNote, Planner, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Yammer. 

6. Why are these service updates happening? 

  • These service updates are part of the larger Microsoft 365 project, which is intended to eliminate duplicate efforts, reduce licensing costs, improve security, increase collaboration, and improve the customer experience across all University System of New Hampshire institutions. 

7. What will happen to my Outlook rules?

  • Your rules will move; however, it is highly recommended to export your rules if you have a lot of them set up. If you have more than one institutional email account, such as KSC and UNH, please check to see that your rules are still in place. 

8. Will I lose any email or files?  

  • No, you will not lose any email or files.

9. How long will it take before I start to see new email?  

  • It may take up to 72 hours for your mailbox to fully populate if it contains a lot of email content. 
  • Your desktop application (Outlook) may not appear the same as your online mailbox. 

10. How will the migration impact my MS Teams? 

  • If you use MS Teams, all of your Teams content, files and settings will be migrated. The only exception is your chat history, which cannot be migrated.   
  • If your chat history is important to keep for your records, please go into Teams and copy the content into a file (e.g. Word document) and save it to your computer no later than 5 p.m. on June 4. 

The following FAQs are applicable to faculty and staff. 

12. Will my delegates be able to access my mailbox after the migration?  

  • Yes, we will be migrating you and your delegate(s) simultaneously.  

12. Will I have to reconnect my devices to M365 apps after the migration is complete?  

  • Yes.  

The following FAQ is applicable to students.

13. Will my email address change?

  • Yes, your email address will become firstname.lastname@keene.edu. If email messages are addressed to your firstname.lastname@ksc.keene.edu email, you will still receive those messages. 

Computer Migration for employees with KSC computers:

If you have a KSC-issued computer, Enterprise Technology & Services (ET&S) needs to migrate that computer to the new, integrated environment. An ET&S Desktop Support consultant will contact you to schedule a time to complete this process. Expect to be contacted sometime over the summer.
