Every Zoom Capable Classroom will have a one-page quick start guide located near the touch panel to provide plug and play steps. If you would like to have your own copy, you can download a PDF version found under the Attachments box on the right-hand side of this article.
What is a Zoom Capable classroom?
Zoom Capable classrooms are outfitted with new technology that will allow remote participants the ability to be part of the course from a distance. Zoom Capable classrooms across all USNH campuses are equipped with:
The Rear Mounted Auto-tracking 1Beyond Camera is posted in the back of the classroom and is capable of focusing a wide angle shot of the front of the classroom, tracking the instructor’s movement, or fixed on the instructor podium. Additionally, the camera has preset locations for focusing on the whiteboard/chalkboard or can be manually controlled by the instructor to focus on a specific location.
The front mounted fix camera provides a wide angle view of the classroom from the position located behind the instructor podium.
In the back, a monitor will display the same thing that is on the instructor’s screen and projection screen. This is useful in that an instructor can look at the monitor, which is situated near the Rear Mounted camera, and appear to be looking at the camera when looking at their presentation. The confidence monitor will not act as another display that will display remote participant videos.
The In-Ceiling Microphones are omni-directional microphones that can capture conversation through all the classroom, even with participants wearing mask. The microphones are visible as tiles in the ceiling that read "Shure" as the name in one of the corners.
The USB and HDMI connections allow for a laptop to be connected to the system so instructors can present from a school laptop, instead of PC in the classroom. The HDMI cable controls the projection system in the room. The USB cable controls the front and rear cameras, the microphones, and the speaker system.
If your laptop does not have a USB or HDMI port, you will need to obtain an appropriate adaptor for your device to connect the cables.
The AV touch panels allow the instructor to control the input, whether from the HDMI laptop connection or the PC in the classroom. Additionally, the AV touch panel is where instructor can use preset or manually focus the Rear-Mounted Auto-tracking 1Beyond Camera

To use the classroom PC, at the USB cable from the instructor terminal, then AV Touch Panel, press the PC option. You will be able to use all functionality in the Zoom Capable classroom with this device.
To use a laptop, unplug the USB cable from the instructor terminal, then connect the HDMI cable and USB cables to their respective ports on the laptop and select HDMI on the AV Touch Panel. If you are unable to locate the USB cable, check behind the classroom PC monitor for a small black USB port box. There should be a label denoting that it is the USB cable port.
Once in your meeting in Zoom, click on the triangle next to the audio button in the bottom left corner. For the microphone selection, select the option that is not your built-In microphone. For most rooms this selection will be Dante USB I/O microphone.
For the Zoom Speaker selection, select Crestron. If you are using the VGA cable with attached headphone plug, select Headphones.
Once in your meeting in Zoom, click on the triangle next to the Video button in the bottom left corner. To use the Front mounted fix camera, select Mini USB.
Once in your meeting in Zoom, click on the triangle next to the Video button in the bottom left corner. To use the Rear Mounted Auto-tracking 1Beyond Camera, select the camera with the long name ending with "-SDI". This will enable the camera, but it will not automatically focus on the front of the classroom. You need to press on the Camera option on the AV touch panel.
The AV Touch Panel gives instructors the ability to control where the Rear Mounted Auto-tracking camera focuses. First, press the camera button on the bottom area of the AV Control Panel. To have the camera focus on a wide angle view of the front, press the top button on the left hand column. To have the camera auto track your movement, press the center button on the left hand column. To have the camera with a tight focus on the instructor terminal, press the bottom button on the left hand column. To select the whiteboard presets, press the buttons in the top center. To manually control where the camera focus, slide you finger in the white center box. To zoom in or out, use the + or minus buttons on the right.

First launch PowerPoint and open the presentation. In Zoom, click Share Screen on the bottom. In the dialog box that opens, select the tile that displays the PowerPoint and click on the blue Share button. Select Slide Show on the menu ribbon and Start from the Beginning or Current Slide. If you are using a laptop, the program might detect you have external displays and have presenter on your laptop screen. To make sure your Zoom students are actually seeing the Slide Show, click Display Settings at the top, then click Duplicate Slide Show.
It is best practice to set a class expectation on how lectures will work over Zoom. For example, state that you will lecture for 5-10 minutes and then open the floor to questions. You could encourage students to interject questions when necessary as well. You know your lecture and how you prefer to lecture, so make the decision that best fits your style.
Sharing a Video in Zoom
In Zoom, click Share Screen on the bottom. In the dialog box that opens, select Screen/Desktop. Additionally, check the box for Share Computer Sound, then click share in the bottom right corner, be aware that this will show everything on your monitor. Open the program and play the video.
You have the option to share both cameras in a Zoom Capable Classroom. This is done by clicking on the Share Screen button at the bottom of the Zoom window, selecting the Advanced option from the dialog box, and choosing Content from 2nd Camera. As soon as you share the second camera, you will see it appear and can toggle through the video inputs by clicking on the Switch Camera button located in the upper left-hand side of the main video.
Outcome:
Users should be able to become familiar using Zoom equipment in the classroom.
