Known Issue

Any one using the browser Safari or IE may experience an issue with adding a video into myCourses.  Canvas is changing from using Flash to HTML5.   Chrome and Firefox uses HTML5 when adding videos.   

Since we recommend faculty use Kaltura when creating videos for course content this issue with Flash will not be a problem for those videos. The time faculty or student could have an issue is when in a Canvas course when adding a video in a message or when using the video option in the Rich Content Editor.  Faculty may also see the issue when they add a video comment for feedback on an assessment or add a video to an announcement.

The problem can be identified when attempting to add a video while in Safari or IE, the user will experience a spinning circle as Flash tries to load.  

 

Solution/ Fix

Solution #1

Use a different browser; Firefox or Chrome.

 

Solution #2

  1. Update settings in Safari.
  2. Go to Safari > Preferences.
  3. Select Websites.
  4. Enable Plug-ins > Adobe Flash Player.
  5. Select the websites you want to enable Adobe Flash Player.
  6. Refresh browser.
