Troubleshooting Tableau Server Access Issues

Tags Tableau VPN

If you are experiencing problems opening a link to a Tableau visualization or opening tableau.unh.edu it could be one of three common issues

Problem:

You can’t access tableau.unh.edu (Tableau Server) or can’t open a link to a Tableau visualization.

Resolution:

Try the following troubleshooting steps:
  1. If you have not been challenged for a username and password:
    1. Check that you are connected to the VPN. To access visualizations on Tableau Server you must first connect to the Pulse Secure VPN. If you do not already use the VPN for other work then you can find its installation steps at Pulse Secure VPN - Installation Instructions.
    2. Ensure that you are on the UNH Secure network.
  2. If you have been challenged for a username and password, but get an error like "Resource not found", "invalid username or password", or can’t see the visual you’re expecting:
    1. Confirm with the developer that you have a Tableau Server account.
    2. Confirm with the developer that you have been given access to the visualization.
    3. Ensure that you are using your AD username and password.

If you have been granted access to the project and you are logged onto the VPN and still cannot open the link, check that you are on the UNH Secure network. You may not be able to connect from the UNH-Public WiFi network.

Cause:

Not connected to the VPN, not using AD username and password, or not assigned permissions to the visualization.
